Carl Andrew Abadilla: Student Kicked Out from Our Saviour's Christian Academy in Ilocos Norte for Speaking Ilocano

A school in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte Philippines called Saviours Christian Academy has kicked out some students for speaking Ilokano, the native dialect of the province. Our Saviour's Christian Academy has a strict English-speaking policy on campus, students and teachers are only allowed to converse in English.

This is quite common in other Catholic schools as well. But this is the first time I heard students getting expelled for such a violation of school policy. I think the punishment is quite severe... overkill.. di ba pwede pagsabihan ang bata? kausapin ang parents?

Atsaka baket so bawal mag Ilokano? Eh nasa Ilocos sila eh! Kalokohan!

Brian Shah, a Singaporean reverend and President of the said school has remained firm on the issue.

According to journalist Herdy Yumul's blog-

Classes have been going on for two months, Carl has been accepted at the Divine Word College of Laoag. Samboy, another student who was also kicked out is the son of a pastor. Both his parents are working at SCA, and are under Shah, so they opted to just accept the decision silently. Samboy and fellow student Kleinee Bautista are now out-of-school youths. Yikes! Talk about cruelty to kids!

To the parents of these students, just get your kids' records cleared and transfer them elsewhere, they deserve a better school than this.

Crying Cop: PO1 Joselito ‘Toto’ Sevilla - Suspended, Forced Leave or Fired?

We all know the images that went viral yesterday of  PO1 Joselito ‘Toto’ Sevilla, a big Teddy bear of a policeman who shed tears at the SONA protest rally. He's all for PEACE after all.

But our dear police officer will not be reporting for duty for the next two weeks.According to Marikina Police Station Chief Sr. Supt. Reynaldo Jagmis, they allowed Sevilla to take a 15-day leave upon his request made through his wife Rhoda on Tuesday.

Glad to hear the man was not fired or sack for showing his emotions. PO1 Sevilla has been in the police force for 12 years, this is the first time he suffered a public "breakdown." According to his wife Rhoda, "He really practiced maximum tolerance.” These protest rallies do really escalate into violence and sometimes rather quickly.

After all the man was exhausted- tired and hungry from being in the front lines under the sun all day. He deserves a break- and not humiliation or further bashing online.
